Who loves the color red, peep-toe pumps, and performing to the classic Marilyn Monroe tune “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend”?
Our Miss February, the Shanghai Pearl!
As an internationally known burlesque performer specializing in glamour, expert instruction, and beautiful on-stage creations the Shanghai Pearl loves to wow audiences with her enigmatic stage presence.
Pearl fell in love with burlesque while attending Tease-O-Rama in San Francisco, a largely attended yearly burlesque convention. She noticed the lack of Asian dancers and influence in the performances and decided right then and there to take the burlesque world by storm.
She shares her passion by teaching up and coming burlesque performers at The Academy of Burlesque in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and has also just finished teaching a workshop series entitled “DIY Showgirl: Burlesque Craft Classes” that teaches ladies how to do such things as apply fake eyelashes, make and wear headdresses, and buy costumes on a budget.
Shanghai Pearl can be seen around Seattle performing at venues such as The Pink Door, El Gaucho, A Contemporary Theatre, and at the longest running weekly burlesque show in the Pacific Northwest, “Sinner Saint Burlesque Revue”, that takes place every Thursday night at the Noc Noc Nightclub in downtown Seattle.
